NACAG signs Grant Agreement with Georgian fertilizer supplier Rustavi Azot

On 15 October, Georgian fertilizer producer Rustavi Azoti and NACAG signed a grant agreement to purchase and install greenhouse gas abatement technology and monitoring equipment for the production facility in Rustavi in the southeast of Georgia. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Mr. Otar Shamugia, his deputies and Department heads, Georgian Parliament Members and Ms. Maia Bitadze- Chairwoman of Environmental Protection Parliamentary Committee and Distinguished RA senior management team. According to the agreement, Rustavi will receive financial support to mitigate and monitor nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions arising from nitric acid production.

Rustavi Azoti, founded in 1956, is Georgia’s sole producer of nitrogenous fertilizer. After equipment installation, roughly 90000 tons of CO2 equivalent will be mitigated annually.

The signing of the grant agreement with Rustavi follows the Georgian Government’s firm commitment to ensure that nitrous oxide emissions from nitric acid production will be effectively and permanently mitigated in the future.
