NACAG strengthens cooperation with Zambia

From 31 March to 7 April, the NACAG Secretariat visited Zambia to conduct a technical feasibility study at the nitric acid producer Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) and discuss the project implementation with political and industrial stakeholders.

Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia, located in Kafue in the South of Zambia, is the sole nitric acid producer in the country. In the technical feasibility study, NACAG advises the plant operator on the best technical options to reduce N2O emissions. The approximate mitigation potential in Zambia equals 85 000 tCO2e per year.

NACAG works closely with all relevant stakeholders. During a workshop on April 7, the Secretariat discussed the upcoming project implementation steps with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, other governmental organizations, Nitrogen Chemicals, and GIZ Zambia.

Zambia´s interest in the NACAG initiative marks a global trend toward climate-friendly nitric acid production.
