In May 2025, Monómeros Colombo Venezolanos, a partner plant in the NACAG initiative, formalized the contract with Siemens for the acquisition and installation of continuous monitoring technology at its nitric acid production plant located in Barranquilla, Colombia.
The signing of the contract was achieved thanks to the fulfillment of the commitments established in the grant agreement between Monómeros and the NACAG initiative, formalized in September 2023, and the development of rigorous international bidding processes that were successfully completed in March 2025.
The data generated through the continuous monitoring system represents a substantial improvement for the MRV system of the industrial sector and the country. This information, together with the corresponding institutional arrangements, will allow for improved methodological standards for the estimation of the sector’s GHG emissions and Colombia’s subsequent reporting to the UNFCCC.
This progress in the implementation of the NACAG initiative in Colombia reflects the Colombian government’s commitment to the initiative and to the continuous and sustainable improvement of the monitoring of nitrous oxide emission reductions from nitric acid production.
