NACAG Partner Plant Monómeros Signs Contract for the Procurement of Nitrous Oxide Abatement Technology

In July 2025, Monómeros Colombo Venezolanos, a NACAG partner plant, formalized the contract for the supply and installation of secondary abatement technology to reduce nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions at its nitric acid production plant located in Barranquilla, Colombia.

In accordance with the commitments established in the grant agreement between Monómeros and the NACAG initiative, and after ensuring the transparency of the open international bidding process held during 2024, the contract was formalized with CASALE for the supply and installation of N₂O abatement technology.

The installation and proper operation of this secondary abatement technology will mitigate more than 85% of N2O emissions from nitric acid production compared to the current emissions from the Monómeros production plant. This also represents an important contribution to the mitigation commitment established in Colombia’s NDC.

These advances in the implementation of the NACAG initiative in Colombia reflect the Colombian Government’s commitment to ensuring an effective and sustainable reduction of nitrous oxide emissions from nitric acid production.
