NACAG Impact Report 2024

The Impact Report 2024 has been published and provides an overview of key achievements and projected impacts of the Nitric Acid Climate Action Group (NACAG) in its global effort to reduce nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions from nitric acid and caprolactam production.

The report outlines how NACAG supports partner countries in establishing long-term, low-carbon production structures through a combination of financial support, technical advice, and policy engagement. It highlights progress in integrating N₂O abatement into national climate strategies and promoting the use of climate-friendly technologies in eligible countries.

Selected Highlights

  • 6 million tCO₂e reduced annually at the end of the initiative — equivalent to 2 million round-trip flights between Europe and North America.
  • 6 million tCO₂e additionally reduced per year beyond the lifetime of the supported projects.
  • 4 million tons of lower-emission fertilizer produced annually using nitric acid as a raw material — twice the annual fertilizer use of Germany.
  • 10 countries have integrated the nitric acid sector into their NDCs.
  • 11 grant agreements signed for climate technology procurement.
  • 1,600+ stakeholders trained on N₂O abatement, MRV systems, and environmental standards.
  • 17 technical studies, 15 due diligence reviews, and 9 policy advisory studies completed in 15 countries.
  • 11 countries have committed to long-term low-carbon nitric acid production.

NACAG works with public and private actors to establish lasting emission reductions, create enabling policy environments, and strengthen global climate technology markets.
