In February 2025, NACAG partner Rustavi Azot, Georgia’s leading nitric acid producer, signed a contract with Estonian supplier Alvigo for the procurement and installation of N₂O abatement technology. The contract was awarded following an international competitive tender process, ensuring transparency and value for investment.
Once operational, the abatement system is expected to reduce emissions by approximately 430,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent gross – a reduction comparable to the emissions from around 450,000 round-trip economy flights between Berlin and Tbilisi by a single passenger.
This major milestone was made possible after the Government of Georgia signed NACAG’s Statement of Undertaking in March 2020, formally committing to the climate-friendly transformation of nitric acid production in the country.
