Salta, Argentina, October 13, 2025. Austin Powder Argentina S.A. has signed a Supply Contract with SE.MI.SA for the procurement, installation, and commissioning of a tertiary Nitrous Oxide (N₂O) abatement system at its nitric acid production plant in the province of Salta.
This milestone follows the execution of a Grant Agreement between Austin Powder and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. Through this agreement, GIZ will finance the acquisition and implementation of the new technology. The project is funded by the German Government and implemented under the Nitric Acid Climate Action Group (NACAG) initiative, a global program dedicated to reducing N₂O emissions from nitric acid facilities.
Similar efforts supported by NACAG are underway in other regions where the initiative also fosters sustainable industrial development.
Austin Powder Argentina S.A. is a company dedicated to the development, manufacturing, commercialization, and supply of chemical products. The company currently produces approximately 52,000 tons of nitric acid per year, resulting in an estimated 130,000 tons of CO₂e emissions. Under optimal conditions, the technology is expected to mitigate more than 120,000 tons of CO₂e emissions annually, representing a major step forward in Austin Powder’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact. Installation and commissioning are expected to be completed by September 2026.
SE.MI.SA, the selected supplier, is an Argentine engineering firm duly constituted under national law, with extensive experience in industrial projects of this nature.
The signing of this contract marks a significant advancement for the NACAG initiative in Argentina. It represents the first major step toward deploying N₂O abatement technology in the country’s nitric acid sector. Austin Powder has worked diligently throughout the tendering, evaluation, and contracting phases to reach this milestone, which reinforces the company’s long-standing commitment to operational excellence, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development.
Argentina has been steadily progressing in its engagement with NACAG since the national government signed the Statement of Undertaking in May 2021, committing to permanently reduce N₂O emissions from nitric acid production. Since then, NACAG has provided technical assistance to Austin Powder, including a comprehensive feasibility assessment for implementing abatement technologies at its facility.
